November 17 – Moderna Rolls Out Maxi Store Format
With 170 stores, located in the Campania, Basilicata, Calabria and Puglia regions of Italy, Italy’s Moderna 2020 Rolls Out Maxi Store Format in Pompei. November 16 – Pet Chain Seeks New Owners
Belgium’s pet care chain Tom&Co is looking to sell part of the chain with a goal of global expansion. The retailer has 175 stores and a turnover of EUR 241 million and is a market leader in Belgium in sales of pet food and pet care items. Tom&Co saw an increase in turnover of 15% in the recent year as pet ownership increased during the pandemic. From Retail Detail

November 16 – Tesco Is the Only UK Supermarket to Grow Sales in Last Four Months
Tesco, the UK’s largest retailer, was the only one of the country’s big four grocers to grow sales in the last 12 weeks. Tesco’s sales rose 0.4% year-on-year in the 12 weeks leading to November 6, increasing its market share 26.6%.

November 16 – Amazon Set Target on Go Markets in Europe
Amazon has announced plans to open hundreds of checkout-free stores in Europe in the next three years. The anticipated openings focus heavily on openings in the UK with a target of 260 stores.  In addition, the Amazon is targeting Germany, Italy and Spain for additional openings. From Retail Detail

November 16 – Ikea’s Largest Store to Open in the Philippines
After delays due to the pandemic, the world’s largest Ikea is scheduled to open in Manila at the end of November.  The store opening marks the first store in the Philippines and will cover five stories and will be located next to the Mall of Asia in Manila’s Pasay City. From Inside Retail

November 16 – New Marketplace Launches in India
Skyline India, a new marketplace for online shopping launched its platform catering to wholesale and retail shoppers, launched in India. November 16 – Italy’s Largest Retail Alliance to Invest Heavily in Store Openings
Members of Italy’s largest retail purchasing alliance ESD Italia are planning to invest EUR 600 million in 2022 in opening 160 news stores and modernizing 150 current stores.  This 20-year-old retail alliance consists of many big names in  Italian retail including Acqua & Sapone, Agorà Network, Aspiag Service, Selex Gruppo Commerciale, and SUN. November 15 – Thai Retail Group Considers Selfridges Takeover
Central Group, the Thai owner of the Italian department store Rinascente, is considering the purchase of UK’s Selfridges. The luxury department store chain has been up for sale since the summer. From Retail Detail

November 15 – Ahold Delhaize Aims for Sales Increases
With an increased omnichannel offering, Ahold Delhaize aims to add USD 11.4 billion in sales by 2025, Ahold Delhaize projects its net consumer online sales to double by 2025. From Supermarket News

For the second time in 2021, the UK’s Marks & Spencer is raising its profit forecast. These favorable figures have reinforced that Marks & Spencer believes that its transformation plan focusing on turning around its outdated culture, improving its offerings and e-commerce is succeeding. November 14 – Ebay Korea Transfer Ownership
Ebay Korea has completed the transfer of 80.01% of eBay Korea to Emart for approximately USD 3 billion. Ebay will retain a 19.99% interest in the Korean businesses, including G-Market, IAC and G-9. From Ebay Inc.

November 12 – Chile’s Falabella Plans Growth in Brazil

JD.com reported a record-breaking Singles’ Day, with transaction volume totaling USD 54.6 billion. JD.com kicked off the 2021 sales 4 hours ahead of the kick off time in 2020, allowing consumers to place orders before midnight.

November 11 – Alibaba Achieves Another Record with Singles’ Day
China’s online retail giant, Alibaba reported record sales USD 84.5 billion on November 11’s Singles’ Day. Alibaba’s sales at the end surpassed the November 11, 2020 sales and the strong performance could ease concerns among investors who saw a 30% slump in Alibaba’s shares this year, which in 2021 as well as the concern over a USD 2.8 billion antitrust fine. November 11 – Netherland’s Hema Announces New Strategy
With a new an omnichannel approach in its own stores and digital channels, Hema plans a new to streamline customer experience. November 9 – Carrefour Sets Aim on Digital Growth
France’s Carrefour has set objectives for digital retail in recent announcements. The retailer aims to triple its e-commerce GMV by 2026, to reach EUR 10 billion. The Group also expects that digital will contribute an additional EUR 600 million to ROI in 2026 vs 2021. From Business Wire

November 8 – Carrefour Argentina Launces Fast Delivery Service
