Get to know the people behind the stylish, thought-provoking designs that will be exhibited in Discover Design. This series of conversations will give you a glimpse of the inspirations, influences and ideas that go into creating the exciting products that you’ll see at the 2013 Show.
Based in Spain, Casa Vigar S.L. produces colorful, whimsical household items that aim to bring a smile to people who use them for daily living. Casa Vigar products invite the imagination to run wild. Chores are no longer a bore with fun and functional dishwashing and laundry items, home organization conveniences and decorative accessories.
We are speaking with Mr. Vicent García Mahíques, General Manager.
Mr. Mahiques, where do you find inspiration when designing new products?
On the street, every single detail. Inspiration is born when one least expects it.
How do you choose which idea to take to the next step — to product development?
Listening to customers and following our feelings.
How do you identify the key user audience for your products?
Through any comment, complaint and suggestion to improve. Our clients are our eyes in the market so that´s the way we identify any final consumer.
Is there an approach or look that joins the functionality, form or emotional appeal of your product line?
We always aim for the product’s emotional impact on the spirit, of course together with the product’s functionality. We try to make something that wakes up emotions but we never forget that it will be a functional product.
How do you see design’s importance in our industry as it moves forward?
Today the presence of the designer is really important in all the ranges and prices of products, since design expresses the personality of every company and drives the way that each one builds a presence on the market.
Where are your products manufactured?
Even though our headquarters and our plant production are based in Spain, the main production line is located in China where we organize all the manufacturing process.
How does Discover Design help to expand your brand?
It is a good way to show our brand and designed products together. It is a place where retailers, competitors, designers and a wide and varied public become aware of novelties and trends.
What advice can you offer to designers working in the home goods field?
Be yourself and try to transmit the spirit/passion of the company through the design.
Thank you, Mr. Mahiques, for sharing your understanding of how design helps you frame your business. We look forward to seeing your product line at Booth S3771 in Discover Design. To learn more about Casa Vigar and its products, see www.vigar.com
